I have a Q-jet carb number 17084226. Above each primary venturi there is a boss with a brass tube protruding from it. What is this tube for, is it a air bleed?

You said single MAB carb, so this carb doesn't have a upper and lower main air bleed and can this carb be modified to have a upper and lower main air bleed?

No need to add another bleed, the tube sticking out is the bleed. What size is it? The one I'm using is .086 if I recall.

As to if this carb is a good candidate for performance, the Edelbrock performer RPM Qjet was based on the single main air bleed design.
