THIS IS NOT RUN-ON/DIESELING

Well just took my 1st long drive with my used msd 6a box and turn the key off n it just acted like nothing happened. First I thought my ignition switch was bad, I flipped the key about 10 times and notice the tach/gauges would shut off. I then popped the hood and got out to cut the signal wire because I don't like just unhooking the batt, but it just shut off on it's own.

So now I'm uneasy about my new/used box, if that is the problem.

Prob would have done nothing if I cut the signal wire IF the box is broken. FYI the box key hot is wired to the HEI pink wire so I know it's a keyed hot. It started n shut off several times until I took a long drive.

You need to read the MSD instructions. The fix is installing a diode to stop feedback from the alternator.

Yah someone just suggested that on YB, and after some reading they say to install it at the alt. Does that mean my new alt isn't right? Because if so it's new enough I can return or exchange it.

77 no external voltage reg.

I went over the pdf I have for the 6 series boxes before the install and just read it on there.

Would a toggle/kill switch fix it as well?

The diode is available at Radio Shack. A toggle switch in the small red wire will do it and you can hide it for a crude anti-theft device.

This is normal with CD boxes and that type of GM alternator and many others.
