Ok I previously used a stock mech pump with a return and now the aftermarket mech pump I am using does not have one.

I would like to use a bypass/return reg to not deadhead/heat fuel. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-12-841/overview/

Since my new pump only puts out 5 1/2 psi I don't need to regulate it exactly. Do I leave the reg opened all the way up? Or do I set it were it just starts to regulate?

The new pump is a hi-volume pump, 3 times the old gph

I finally rem and got one out to look at it and a bypass reg is full flow and the check ball is the bypass. Still today I check for sure and the reg will only bypass fuel if it's set below 5 1/2 psi, at 5psi I get a steady slow flow.
