Hi guys,

Trying to get some ideas on where the obvious leak points are on these things.

Helping a friend with one of these (an Arrow rather than a D, I don't know what that means except the shape of the baseplate) on his flathead and it looks like its pissing fuel on the passenger side.

Its pretty dirty externally so we haven't had a chance to clean it up to find the leak but it seems to be wet around the drivers side mixture screw at the rear, maybe the plunger and maybe the throttle shaft since that side is pretty wet.

Only seems to leak with the fuel pump on (electric) and engine not running, pump allegedly running 3psi according to his regulator (chromed dial looking thing), I haven't fitted a proper gauge yet or tried one of my known good regs and he has a lot of pump for a handful of horsepowahs.

I also figured its probably still leaking when the engines running but the damn manifold gets so hot nothing stays wet very long.

He has been chasing fuel related woes for a while, I fitted a bakelite spacer to keep the carb from boiling which has made these leaks really obvious now.

So, besides the remote diagnosis with no actual information, where are the common leak points on these things and how hard are they to repair for a guy with just enough mechanical skill to be dangerous but probably lacking the fancy tools that are sometimes required to do a job properly?

I am trying to convince him to borrow a good carby rather than rely on repairing this one in a rush (its car show season here)

I did grab a copy of the the exploded diagram Tuner posted in the only other Stromberg thread on here but I figured it was worth an ask.

How much leak is it, steady flow, steady drip, just moist or what?

It is normal for fuel to leak out the throttle shaft when the accelerator pump is squirted with the engine not running.

When the engine is running the vacuum keeps the fuel inside because it draws air in through the shaft clearance which the fuel leaks out through when the engine is not running. The vacuum and associated air flow toward the cylinders keeps the fuel inside.
