Is it possible that a dist can be going bad or just weak and you lean out a tune so much that when you change to a new dist it won't run/rev right?

Weak ignition can be crutched with a rich mixture, but fixing the ignition will make it run better. High Energy Ignition systems came about because of the need to reliably fire lean and EGR diluted mixtures. In the days of hand chokes, occasionally someone would show up with a "carb problem" that was evident because the engine would only run if the choke was on a little bit, 30-50% or so. A person could spend a lot of time fixing a carb that turned out to be a coil that was a little bit short.

My tune is a bit on the lean side 73 fronts, 76 rears, with a larger pvcr

If it ran (more or less) OK with the HEI, and the only change is to the new ignition and now it doesn't run well, logic says, "it ain't the carb".

Thx, didn't really think so but I try to keep an open mind as a solution has been off-the-wall a few times before.
