1/4" solid brass rod, around 3/4 long. Thru-drill with .106". Drill one end 1/8" deep with .136", other end 1/8" deep with .159".

Tap the inner hole for #6-32, outer for #10-32.

Tap the other end for #8-32.

Unscrew your setscrew into the mandrel.

Now you can spin those setscrews without losing them inside the chuck or boogering up the threads. It really really helps especially with the short 1/8" long screws.

Did I put this in the wrong place, not reaching enough eyeballs out there? :(

I made a whole mess of these and so have about 20 spares if anybody's interested.

Maybe. To avoid mailing 20 separate packages each with a tiny little bit of metal inside my plan was to get a list together, then mail all 20 (or however many) to person #1, they remove their one piece and mail the bag to person #2, so on. That way I only have to pay postage once, and everybody still gets their 'free' mandrel.

That is a very generous offer and I would certainly like to participate if there is enough interest.

I don't know if this will work, but I added #4-40 too. The thru-hole is much bigger than what #4 calls for (it can't be smaller than around .103" or else the hex key for the #10 won't fit through) so the setscrews may not have enough thread depth to snug up when they get to the bottom of the hole. I don't have any #4 setscrews here to check with, only random #4-40 stuff I found in the junk box. If you need to do #4-40s and it doesn't work as-is you can make an adapter from a #10-32, drilled with the correct .089" tap drill.

#10-32 & #6-32 on the grooved end, #4-40 (maybe) & #8-32 on the plain end.

If there are enough Aussie takers I can send a separate package to somebody, and then they can handle passing the package around locally.
